Deadline to the the new 1 year MA program in Jewish Studies at Tel Aviv University
The Department of Hebrew Culture Studies at Tel-Aviv University invites applications for its new one-year Masters program in Jewish Studies for international students. This is the only Jewish Studies Masters program in Israel that is conducted entirely in English.
The program offers a series of comprehensive encounters with the classical texts of Jewish cultures from biblical to modern times. The King James Bible and Its Cultural Afterlife
The English Department at The Ohio State University will host an international conference in 2011 on the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James (or Authorized) Version of the Bible. Held in Columbus, Ohio during the first weekend in May, the conference will focus on the making of the KJV in the context of Reformation Bible translation and printing as well as on the KJV’s long literary and cultural influence from Milton and Bunyan to Faulkner, Woolf, and Toni Morrison. Events will include plenary lectures and discussions, scholarly panels, roundtable seminars, and readings by contemporary writers. An accompanying exhibit will be mounted by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library.

Call for Papers Deadline
Adventist Society for Religious Studies
The 2011 meeting of the Adventist Society for Religious Studies will convene in San Francisco, California on November 17-19, 2011. The theme for the meeting is: “Gates and Walls: Inclusivity and Exclusivity and the People of God.” The Society invites proposals for brief scholarly papers which will be presented at the meeting. Priority will be given to those papers which discuss any aspect of what it means, in the Seventh-day Adventist context, to be “in” or “out” of the people of God; and/or how an individual may pass, or be blocked from passing, between the inside and outside.
Papers from all disciplines are elicited. The format allows for a 15-minute oral presentation with additional time for questions and discussion. A 200-word abstract should accompany the proposals. Proposals and abstracts should be submitted in WordPerfect or MS Word format to John Reeve at jreeve@andrews.edu

The Advanced Summer program for the Study of Jewish-Christian Encounters in the First Centuries CE,
is a 6 week English-language program, designed for advanced students (M.A., M.Div., M.A.R, Ph.D., etc.) in ancient Judaism and early Christianity from the United States and Europe. The program will provide English-speaking students with basic scholarly skills in the Hebrew language and in rabbinic literature and culture. It will expose them to current scholarship and to leading Israeli scholars in these fields, as well as to various archeological sites.
The studies will take place at the Tel Aviv University campus, located in the heart of Tel Aviv. Accommodations are available at the recently renovated on-campus housing.

On Sea And Ocean: New Research In Phoenician Seafaring
In the absence of written records, the Phoenicians are seen through either the prism of Greek, Roman, and Biblical literature or their material remains as analyzed through archaeology. During the past decade, nautical archaeological aspirations have turned toward the presence and capabilities of the Phoenicians sailing the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean with the goal of creating a better understanding of their role in the ancient world.
The Marburg Center for the Ancient World, the Archäologisches Seminar at Phillips-Universität Marburg, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Unterwasserarchäologie (DEGUWA) invite papers for a symposium on current and new evidence of Phoenician seafaring. Papers in German, English, French, and Italian on Phoenician maritime endeavors-- and their Punic iterations-- are welcomed, particularly those concerning archaeological discovery and analysis as well as new avenues of theory and research. Accepted and presented papers will be published in a volume of the proceedings.
